In mid-February 2005, Angela Young was called for jury duty by the Kentucky Court of Justice at the Woodford County Courthouse in Versailles, Kentucky. Her jury summons called for her to serve on jury duty for FOUR MONTHS! This jury service assignment placed an extreme hardship on Angela and her family. Angela is a full-time mother to her 3-year-old son and has no family close by who could help take care of him while she was serving on a jury. Angela wrote the court requesting to be excused until her son was older. She received a phone call back from the Woodford County Circuit Clerk stating that the Circuit Judge of the Justice Center in Georgetown, Kentucky would not excuse her and that she must report. Isn’t this court saying, “We’re sorry. Your family comes second”? |
