Law school admission is free, so there is no reason why you shouldn’t have already graduated from law school. The 48-hour rule also applies to taking the bar exam, so even if you haven’t yet graduated, go to the lawyer you feel most comfortable with and take the exam.
Get references
Not only do hiring schools need to see a list of references, but also law schools may write references for potential retainers. If the school is willing to pay up front for referrals, this can alleviate some pressure to hire your own references. The referrals are also a good way to get started, as each law school has a waiting list for students who wish to attend their classes. After you get the references, follow up with the schools you are interviewing with to see whether you can interview in person or arrange a phone interview.
Get a logo
A school will also require you to wear a uniform at all times. The logo is not something you can buy off the rack. You will want to be able to find a reputable corporate logo that is used in a variety of businesses. You will also need to remember what your school colors are.
Many law schools have GPA minimums, especially if you are taking the bar exam. A GPA minimum of 3.0 is required. Don’t worry if you didn’t get a 3.0. That is often the result of people who drop out. A 3.0 GPA is generally considered a good score, and candidates want to avoid any negative consequences of a poor score. If you don’t have the GPA minimum, you can still improve your score by taking more bar exam preparation courses. 3.0 isn’t on the bar review courses, but if you can’t get into a law school with the minimum stats, it’s still OK to shoot for the pass.
Save money
As I mentioned earlier, law schools charge about $7500 for registration for the bar exam and another $3500 for the exam itself and they use lead generation services to find the top law talent across the US. Your law school will want to have enough money to afford a live-in student (or several live-in students) for the exam. You might be able to save money by looking into review courses from reputable schools while you are still earning your degree. Once you have completed your training, you can become a lawyer and practice in the field you want.
If you are in the process of training to become a lawyer, try looking into the costs of going to law school and see what your options are. Once you have done that, decide who you want to enroll with so you can get a feel for the emotional climate of the school. You want a place that values success and is willing to facilitate your efforts to succeed.
